Orange Emanation

Orange Emanation was the painting where this entire way of working clicked for me.
It began in red and green and looked far too flat, graphic, and obvious. I hated that. I wanted it to hum. So I started veiling it in white, building the light around a central point of gravity — almost an orb, energy source, or place where the painting gathers itself. Then I glazed transparent orange over everything and suddenly the colour had warmth and depth without losing the light underneath.
I became obsessed with that process: making a white light-box kind of void, disturbing it with colour, covering and uncovering things, and letting time become part of the image. The painting ended up generating an entire series.
